Understanding the tuning kit in three easy steps:

Number 1.

 

Before purchasing a tuning kit determine if the size and specifications will work with your application. The STEP file is available upon request. Review the M1575HCT-22-P datasheet as well as the application note with integration and soldering guidelines for the M1575HCT-22-P Tuning Kit. The 3-pins can be soldered directly to a board or for edge mounted applications Maxtena suggests using a gradconn BB02-RW, pricing is available upon request.

Number 2.

 

After receiving the tuning kit in the mail, test each one of the five antennas. Before starting the test, a prototype of the device hosting the antenna should be available, including the PCB, all the metal parts and the plastic components that are in proximity of the antenna location. Consult our application note for complete guidelines.

Pick the one antenna that performs the best out of the five. After a decision has been made, an order can be placed by contacting us with the selected part number you wish to purchase.

Antenna dimensions

 

The five Maxtena M1575HCT-22-P antennas present in the tuning kit have the same mechanical dimensions, and can only be identified by the color marks on the bottom of the board. The standard electrical interface is a 3-pin male connector with 2mm pitch and 0.5mm square pins that can be hand soldered directly to a PCB or connected to a female socket. For edge mounted applications Maxtena suggests using a gradconn BB02-RW, pricing available upon request.

The use of a tuning kit can drastically shorten the time to market for new products while guaranteeing that customers are getting a high performance GPS antenna. 

Since the effect of dielectric loading and printed circuit board edge proximity produces a downward shift of the center frequency, the antennas in the kit are tuned at incrementally higher frequencies than the nominal GPS L1 center frequency.

The elements in the kit provide the ability to obtain high radiation gain for the vast majority of modern GPS applications.

The antennas can be tested with most receivers and their software.
